SF: Sea Ranch

Just 100 miles north of downtown San Francisco, the Sea Ranch, a visionary architectural ‘experiment’ feels light years away from the city. Within verdant clifftops and otherworldly vistas sit visionary homes, designed by the likes of Joseph Esherick, considered the dean of Bay Area architects.

With a 360 design vision, this one-of-a-kind community drew the world’s top design talent including architects Charles Moore, William Turnbull Jr., Donlyn Lyndon and Richard Whitaker, landscape architect Lawrence Halprin and graphic designer Barbara Stauffacher Solomon.

Solomon is responsible for the property’s iconic logo as well as the astounding supergraphics, which adorn Sea Ranch’s swimming and tennis club.

This indelible landscape and its singular homes were captured by Rasmus Hjortshøj, the architect and photographer behind COAST. Hjortshøj’s desaturated images chronicle the development’s captivating beauty, which bleeds effortlessly into the breathtaking coastline.
